A new version of dbsaver, our free / open-source salesforce backup tool, is out today which includes the following features:

Search

What good are backups if you have to download them all locally to review them? Starting now you can use a search form to search within a collection: object download history, stream events, etc.

Download

Now you can download files from your backups. The download link is a signed url, meaning you can copy and paste the link for very large files, or you can script some kind of bulk updater.

If you combine it with the search function above, you can search for a record ID, then download each version for local comparison.

Source Code

Here’s a link to the pull request for the current code release:

For the future

We have a comparison page written over 10 years ago, allowing you to provide a record id and see all history for that record. With that page, we expect to provide a way for you to see history inside of your Salesforce org’s pages.

Other ideas? Please let us know!
